Aspen Velo began renting bikes in 1984

Meet Stella, the official mascot of Aspen Velo Electric Bikes. She prefers napping in the sun to riding Bikes in Aspen. Although generally friendly and loving, she does not have much patience for small children so please use caution.

Aspen Velo was founded in 1984 by Michael Wampler, when he began renting road bikes and mountain bikes to locals and tourists. As many did, he came the the valley in the 70’s, fell in love and never left. Vélo is French for ‘bike’ and is a nod to Michael’s love of the Tour de France and bicycle racing. In 2017, Michael’s son Lucas came home to the Roaring Fork Valley after a brief stint in Texas after being born and raised in Aspen. In 2018, he convinced his Dad to give Electric Bikes a try. In 2020, the fleet was converted entirely to E-Bikes given their enormous popularity. Lucas has taken over the business and Michael rode into retirement.
